Rotary International has established the month of September as "Basic Education and Literacy Month."  Rotary International supports this theme through local and international programs. 

One international program is the Basic Education and Literacy Rotary Action Group which members can join to directly affect the outcomes of this Rotary theme.

One local example is the Rotary Ideals Literacy Project.  This project was created by a local Rotary Club out of Ohio and specifically designed for use by other local Rotary Clubs.  This project helps local clubs share the Four-Way Test and Service Above Self mission with children in their respective communities.  The projecta can also plant the seeds for future Rotarians.
