DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN TO BE HONORED
The Rotary Club of Thomaston will be honoring Roger Dupont as this year’s Distinguished Citizen for his unselfish service to the Citizens of Thomaston. Some of the most noteworthy ways in which Roger has served the community was by serving on numerous Boards and Commissions over the years. They were the Opera House Commission, Economic Development Commission, Board of Finance, Recreation Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Board of Selectmen, and the former Police Commission.
In addition to the above, Dupont was the Chairman of the High School Building Committee, President of the Thomaston Board of Trade, Charter President of the Thomaston Jaycees, and as Secretary of the Thomaston Heart Association. He was also a Boy Scout merit badge mentor for 15 years.
“This is our twenty-eighth year in which a deserving citizen will be honored”, said Roger Perreault, Chairman of the Selection Committee. “We look for an individual who has donated numerous hours over an extended period of time for the benefit of others and for the Town. Without a doubt, Roger certainly qualifies for this award. Because of Dupont’s efforts, Thomaston is a better place in which to live.”
The Rotary Club will be soliciting residences and businesses for financial support in honor of Dupont. All of the contributions will help to fund the Rotary Scholarship Program. Each year Thomaston students receive over $10,000 in scholarships from the Rotary Club. This year’s scholarships will be awarded in honor of Roger Dupont.
On April 30th, a banquet will be held to recognize Dupont. Tickets for this memorable occasion are available from Rotarians and at the Thomaston Public Library.
